Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy. There’s no rulebook. No recruitment agencies you can send your CV to. And no two-year career plans. You, and you alone, are responsible for your ultimate success, or failure.
So how can you increase your chances of success in such an unpredictable arena? One tool at your disposal is to blog about it.
It’s your chance to share your expertise and learn from other people’s. It’s an opportunity to take a pause from the day-to-day frenzy of your job and make time for reflection. And it’s your chance to get your voice (and ideas) heard.
Need more convincing? Here are a few good reasons to get typing.
You get to tell your story
Perhaps your business has a unique start-up story. Or you’re professional background is particularly interesting. Either way, potential customers love a good ‘how we got where we are’ tale. As humans we’re all hard-wired to respond to stories. They engage us, inspire us and stick in our memories. So don’t miss the opportunity to tell yours.
You’ll reach new audiences
With each blog post you write, you’re extending your reach. And every time you put good content on the web, you’re extending the number of potential customers you’re communicating with.
You’ll promote your new ideas
No entrepreneur worth his salt sticks with just one idea. Think of Richard Branson: music mogul, rail giant and now space explorer. You might not be quite as ambitious with your thinking, but when you’ve got a new product or service to shout about, writing a blog post is good way to get it into the public domain.
You’ll get time to reflect on your progress
There’s precious little time to reflect when you’re on the go all the time. But a blog gives you just that. Think of it as an online journal where you, and your followers, can track your progress and learn from your past successes and mistakes.
You’ll meet like-minded people
Networking events are few and far between (and aren’t always that productive). But a blog will allow you to communicate with people who share your interests. It could be a way to meet new collaborators and contributors as well as potential customers.
You’ll showcase your company culture
Without a blog, it’s very hard to let people know what it’s really like inside your company. Perhaps your company culture is one of the things that sets you apart from your competitors. Or is one of the main attractions for people who want to work for you. Whatever the reason, don’t be shy about letting people know what it’s like behind the scenes at your business empire.
