Working from home comes with many great benefits, such as being able to take time off whenever you want and not having a boss to answer to. However, it does come with some downsides too – one of the biggest being that it’s very easy to develop an unhealthy lifestyle.
If you work from home and want to stay healthy, then below are 5 great tips to follow.
1. Have a dedicated work area
Having a dedicated office space is one of the best things you can do to stay healthy when working from home. The reason is that if you simply have your computer in your bedroom, then it’s easy to just spend the entire day there – only getting up to go the toilet or get food.
Another reason why a dedicated work area is recommended is because your bedroom should be a place to relax and if you have work-related things in there it can be very difficult to switch off.
2. Schedule workouts
It’s easy to say you’ll exercise at some point during the day but if you don’t schedule something specific then it’s very easy to just keep pushing it back. You should think about the type of exercise you’re going to do, how long for and at what time.
3. Dress smartly
Studies have shown that what you wear affects how you think. If you sit around in your dressing gown for a few hours at the start of the day and try to get work done, chances are you’re not going to be very productive. How you dress doesn’t just affect how productive you are when doing work though, it can also affect your discipline in other areas, such as the foods you eat and whether you’ll stick to your exercise plan.
4. Invest in a decent chair
When you spend many hours a day sat at your computer, it’s vital that you invest in a good chair. A good chair will support your body weight and most importantly your back. There are many excellent ergonomic chairs on the market that are ideal for those who work from home.
5. Schedule proper meal times
A very bad habit that’s easy to get into when working from home is to not have proper meal times, and instead simply snack throughout the day. This is a recipe for disaster in terms of your health so you should always ensure that you schedule proper meal times and ensure what you eat fills you up but is also healthy.
