How To Improve You CV

Given how competitive the job market is, it’s surprising how many don’t put the required in when writing their CV. Your CV should be viewed as a way to impress any potential employers and make it clear why you’re the best candidate for the job. With this in mind, below are 3 great tips to make your CV shine.

1. Make it to the point

When writing your CV, you should always keep in mind that employers are busy people and when they’re hiring, they’re probably reading multiple CVs per day. This means that you want to keep your CV tight and hit on your best points as succinctly as possible. Always avoid rambling or using jargon as it will put potential employers off very quickly.

Remember: your CV is a way to get your foot in the door and create a good first impression. You don’t need to squeeze in every little thing that you think might impress. You’ll be able to elaborate when you get to the interview.

2. Be specific about your achievements

When talking about your work-related achievements, you should always be as specific as possible. For example, instead of saying that you have a knack for sales, talk about specific achievements in jobs you’ve done in the past and how this benefited the business you worked for.

That last point is very important – it can be tempting to just make your CV all about you, but showing that you’re concerned about how your performance benefits your employer is a great way to set yourself apart from other candidates.

3. Include a strong personal statement

A strong personal statement can make a huge amount of difference to the quality of your CV. When writing your personal statement, you should only mention your achievements but also the qualities that make you right for the job you’re applying for.

If at all possible, you should ask for help from your family and friends for your personal statement. They’ll be able to highlight qualities you have that you may not have even thought of.
